Coldplay- Mylo Xyloto- Paradise

It’s coming — Coldplay’s fifth studio album, “Mylo Xyloto” which is set to be released October 24th 2011. Coldplay has released four songs already — three of which will be appearing on the new album. When the first single “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall” debuted, I was not sure what expect from the new Coldplay album. I liked “Every Teardrop” but it is not my favourite and I began to lower my expectations of the new album. To be honest, it’s unfair to Coldplay that their fans criticize them for trying new things that are different from their previous works. I’m sure most of you Coldplay fans that are reading this loved “Parachutes” and “Rush of Blood” and thought that “X&Y” and “Viva La Vida” fell short. I would disagree with anyone who thinks that — Coldplay has evolved and experimented throughout their career and has made each album different and unique. I personally can’t say which of their albums is my favourite.

On September 12th 2011, the band released the next single on the album, “Paradise.” After the first time every hearing the track I was instantly in love with it. This song is a masterpiece — it mixes electronics, violins, piano and much more. The song starts off slow and then the amazing beat hits with an electronic bass. It is catchy and the way the lyrics are presented feels like a classic Coldplay track. I can now tell “Mylo Xyloto” is going to be one of my favourite Coldplay albums — once again, I expect a lot from these guys, but I know they have to talent to back it up. I feel this will be their technically best album, giving the audience many unique sounds to listen to in each song. The variety between “Every Teardrop” “Paradise” and “Major Minus” is already promising! I look forward to hearing everything else from the album and I will be waiting in line to get my copy on the first day.

September 9th 2011- American Idol Tour- Happy Birthday Haley Reinhart

I would not consider myself an American Idol fan — I watched the 1st season and then I never watched an episode since. My girlfriend on the other hand has watched all 10 seasons and has been a fan throughout the years. She first sent me a video of Casey Abrams singing “I Put A Spell On You” and from that moment on I was a Casey fan. The YouTube videos my girlfriend sent me snowballed, soon I saw all of Casey’s videos and some other contestants as well. I then became huge fans of Casey, Haley Reinhart and James Durbin and I ended up becoming a permanent watcher of the show. So my girlfriend and I made sure we got tickets to see the 2011 American Idol Tour!

On September 9th 2011, the American Idol Tour came to the ACC in Toronto and all of our favourite constants were there to perform for us. The show was amazing. I was pleasantly surprised by the stage setup and the performer’s abilities. The show was jam-packed with songs and it was a great experience. My girlfriend and I stayed after the show and got every Idol’s autograph! James Durbin and Casey Abrams were suppppppper nice and took pictures with us!

*Spoiler Alert for those who haven’t seen the tour yet and want to keep all the secrets a secret. I will be talking about what I thought of each Idol’s performance and I will be revealing my SONG OF THE DAY*

I was shocked by the way concert unfolded. The show released Idols slowly whereas I thought they would all come out and sing a song together at the beginning and then do single performances after. Idols like Casey, Jacob and James were hidden for almost the full first half of the show. But the biggest shocker was hiding Scotty McCreery for the entire show and then letting him out near the very end. I feel bad for Scotty, since he always misses out on all of the fun numbers that the Idols perform together.

The tour was great because it had a wide variety of genres and performances and there was something for everyone. There were many fans for each of the Idols that performed. I’m going to talk about each Idol and I’m sorry if I don’t say too much about your favourite Idol.

Niama Adedapo- Great performer, I loved her African dancing!

Thia Megia- Amazing voice and is really cute and pretty in person!

Pia Toscano- Powerful voice!

Lauren Alaina- Had a cute music video of her and her mom that was really enjoyable.

Stefano Langone- Wow, I’m a dude with a girlfriend but when he took his shirt off I was was screaming too. :P

Jacob Lusk- Super nice guy! Always has a smile on his face and has THE best dance moves!

Paul McDonald- Alright, when Paul came up on stage and sang “Maggie May” that’s when the concert really picked up. Paul got everyone on their feet and he ROCKED the joint! I really wish he got to sing one more song.

Scotty McCreery- Oh so much buildup for Scotty and it was worth it! I have never heard so much screaming for one person. Scotty really does have one of the nicest voices and his bantering skills with the audience were great. “Gone” was awesome but I wish he sang “Swinging.”

James Durbin- Okay, I must admit, James’ performance was the most exciting! It was probably because I love rock & metal and I love banging my head and rockin’ out! Muse is one of my favourite bands and his rendition of “Uprising” is amplified to the max.

Casey Abrams- OH CASEY! YOU ARE THE FUNNIEST GUY EVER! You are the most musically talented Idol of them all! You play the upright bass like its nobody’s business (and it isn’t) and you scat like a motherlover! You’re stage performance is the best as you strut around and interact with the band. “Harder To Breathe” was AWESOME and you closed the song so creepily it was funny! YOU ARE AWESOME AND YOU WILL DO GREAT IN THE FUTURE! (Yes, I know I wrote this as if I was talking directly to Casey. I know he will read this one day!)

Haley Reinhart- Happy Birthday HALEY REINHART (September 9th)!!! Haley was the most exciting to see! She performed “Bennie and The Jets” and “House of the Rising Sun” which were two of the best moments and performances on the show! Haley’s journey on American Idol was the most interesting to watch. It seemed like the judges always ganged up on her (except Steven Tyler), even though she always had the best performances. Her singing talent and need to make everything she does her own, is the reason why I respect her the most. I know she will make great music and I’m voting her to be the most successful Idol from this season. I am also choosing “House Of The Rising Sun” as my song of the day simply because it takes my breath away. As I said straight her face as she was done signing autographs, “You are the BEST HALEY… YOU REALLY ARE!!!”

BTW, nice legs.

My girlfriend told me season 10 was the best season she has ever seen and from the amount of talent there was in it, I’m not surprised. Here is my song of the day…

Yesterday’s Song of The Day- Iron Maiden

Sorry to anyone who wanted to know my song of the day yesterday (probably no one), I didn’t have internet in my new room in St. Catharines. So ya, its another school year and I’m back in St. Kitts for my second year at Brock. I have a room in an townhouse type complex with 5 other random guys (3 of which I have met), so I’m feeling like a “Stranger In a Strange Land.” For those who didn’t realize, that is an Iron Maiden song title and I dedicate it to all University/college students that moved out in the last few weeks. Great song btw.

R.I.P. Blockbuster (s0ng 0f th3 d@y)

If you didn’t already know, the rest of Blockbusters in Canada will be starting to close in the next little while. An era is coming to an end as people prepare for massive sales on Blockbuster products. For this major event I am choosing my song of the day to reflect the end of this era. The Matthew Good Band came out with a song called “The Future Is X-Rated” and the touches on how video stores cease to exist in the future. “The video store that used to real” are the lyrics I’m referring to. This is a pretty rocking song and I highly recommend anything Matthew Good does. This is a sad time for movie lovers and it will interesting to see the future of the movie industry.

Back To School- Song of the Day

Well, its that time of the year again…

Today’s song of the day funnily enough is called “Back To School”, more like “Back To School (Mini Maggit)” by Deftones! This song is off Deftones’ third album “White Pony” and was an added song on the album’s re-release back in 2001. “Back To School (Mini Maggit)” is a different version of the album’s last song “Pink Maggit.” “Mini Maggit” is a hard hitting song with a slightly rap-ish mix added to the original “Pink Maggit.”

“White Pony” the album also reminds me of school because it was over a year ago I started to really listen to it and it became my favourite album for the beginning of my first year of university.

Okay, so some of the best songs on the album (to me) are:

Back to School (Mini Maggit), Feiticeira, Digital Bath, Street Carp, Teenager, Knife Prty (my favourite), Passenger (with Tool’s lead singer, Maynard James Keenan), Pink Maggit and Change (In The House of Flies)- the hit single off the album, it is the song that made me love the Deftones and listen to more of their stuff. The other songs are also really good, they are a little heavier and I play them when I’m full of RAGE and need to release energy! :D

The song “Back To School (Mini Maggit)” might not be the best song on the album but I thought it would be appropriate for my return to university. So here it is… BACK TO SCHOOL… I hope you listen to this album, it is amazing!

Kiss- Hard Luck Woman

First things first, “Hard Luck Woman” is an amazing song and my SONG OF THE DAY!!! Everything about this song is great, from the acoustic guitar to the Rod Stewart sounding- raspy voice, it has it all! For most non Kiss fans I bet they wouldn’t even know that this is a Kiss song, it’s so far out of their style. With that said- sorry hardcore Kiss fans- I’m sick of the IN YOUR FACE KISS SONGS. I loved these songs as a kid, you know: “Shout It Out Loud,” “Rock And Roll All Nite” and “Detroit Rock City”- but I have heard these songs soooooooo many times and they are very repetitive that I need a break! I’m not saying I hate Kiss, I love them and I respect their music but I think the radio should play the slow Kiss songs more often, like “Beth” and “Hard Luck Woman.” I know Gene Simons is reading this right now and cursing me because I know he hates the slow Kiss songs. Maybe I’m hard rocked out? :( Anyways, don’t hate me Kiss fans, God gave rock and roll to you and I hope you use it while you still can.

WOW, I think I said KISS a lot in that paragraph…

HARD LUCK WOMAN! PLAY IT NOW AND FOREVER!

Fleet Foxes- Ragged Wood

I first listened to the Fleet Foxes self entitled debut album just a few weeks ago and I don’t know too much about the band, but I can’t deny that this is great music. “Ragged Wood” is about as good as it gets, great instrumentality with amazing lyrics- the music interlude in the middle of the song that splits up the different melodies is my favourite part. I love when songs change tempo and this song is like two separate songs fused into one masterpiece. The singer reminds me of Roger Daltrey from “The Who” even though Fleet Foxes and them sound nothing alike. The Fleet Foxes use mostly acoustics, I’m loving the violins and fiddles in their songs! I can’t wait to dive into this band more and I hope you become a fan as well!

A MASTERPIECE HERE… RAGGED WOOD
